Barney Curley: The Sure Thing

A bunch of harmless young thugs make a living with little blows. After a failed robbery, they find it impossible to settle their debts to the local boss, who, to repay him, offers them the robbery of a modern art foundation.

In Los Angeles, Emily Brown is a kleptomaniac pill addict who misses her father and attends therapy sessions trying to resolve her compulsion. She has a record in the police for shoplifting, and her mother Teresa is a compulsive shopper. Nick, security guard of Bernstein's Department Store, sees Emily through the security camera and becomes fascinated with her. When he gets into trouble dealing ecstasy, he pressures her to help him rob Bernstein's.

While working in a defense plant, Patsy (Merkel) is rendered unconscious-or at least, more unconscious than usual. While knocked out, she dreams that she's a fearless detective, teamed with tangle-tongued Parkyakarkus on the trail of bank robbers.

All the employees of a bank are kidnapped by the band of Sir George McDowell on the eve of a large payment and replaced with as many doubles. The heist succeeds, but the kidnapped manage to escape and warn the police.

Anticipating a major drug deal the Düsseldorf LKA (state police) conducts an observation of a flat in Cologne. The night shift in the camera-equipped camper is assigned to local police losers Docker and Dretzke. Taking breaks from the boring job Docker starts flirting with bartender Wanda and all too soon he boasts about their investigations. Conceivably, Docker and Dretzke are stunned when they hear Wanda's voice through the wiretap, as she confides the story of the funny policeman to the answering machine in the surveilled apartment. When the buddies decide to break into the flat to erase Wanda's message, they discover something that sheds a different light on the whole affair.

The gang gets stuck during a thunderstorm in a spooky mansion, where they run into ghosts, gorillas and various "apparitions."
