Atlântida: Do Outro Lado do Espelho

Beginning at the break of dawn and ending the next morning, the story, set around a rugged city intersection, follows the path of a marked one-thousand-peso bill as it transfers from one character to another, returning to its originator in the end, blood-tainted. The money leads us to each of the five offbeat characters, all in desperate need of their soul's redemption: a disillusioned tabloid reporter planning to commit suicide in a motel, a nightclub dancer con prostitute who has avowed to give her kid sister a better life, a fallen henchman resurfacing to score big time, a chronic runaway teenage girl held captive as sex slave by a cop, and a long-suffering son bearing a sadomasochistic relationship with his brutish, half-paralyzed father who behaves like a mad dictator in his wheelchair. Like a ticking time bomb, the story unravels with unforgiving immediacy and explodes in the end with a tabloid front-pager triple homicide where death seems to have come full circle.

Petre Orsa, a young peasant gets a job at the Hunedoara Steel Mill with the dream of becoming a top-notch steel-man, having Mihai Solca - a sort of communist industrial hero- as his role model. He starts low moving dirt around with a shovel but he soon gets into the team of an old steel man,foreman Tudor Baci. He meets Livia, a crane operator and he goes on a trip with her to the Hunyad Castle, a local attraction. Foreman Tudor Baci gives Petre the chance to pour his first steel bullion and he manages to succeed through very hard struggle. He asks one of the specialists to help him make a nail to have to show his father back at home (that was one of his dreams). Even the communist press gets interested about him and writes a nice article about him and he starts slacking off. He starts having disputes with his foreman, Tudor. Petre tries to get a position in Solca's team but Solca decides he's still too unexperienced. Petre gets upset and he leaves the site. When the loud-speakers are just about to announce the festivities for the two newly opened steel furnaces, Petre returns. Him and the other steel men are all laughing and start dancing around the furnaces. Tudor shows his the "sun like" fire inside the furnace(that's the meaning of the title) while Livia smiles down on him from the crane above

NYC Chinatown. A young pregnant couple battle parental anxieties and prophetic visions in the summer of 2003, a fever dream of Orange Alerts and SARS scares. Meg and Noah are the begrudging envy of their friends and coworkers. Unmarried, in love, a Chinatown apartment cluttered with rumpled clothes and video games; they live their lives like perpetual undergrads, avoiding the pitfalls of adulthood. But when Meg becomes pregnant, they inherit new responsibilities and worries. Now married and utterly confused, the couple prepare for the impending change in lifestyle. Noahs dreams of showing his video art at a local gallery slip away, while Meg is convinced that she lacks maternal instincts. Three weeks into the pregnancy, Meg experiences a tumultuous vision that grabs her and lifts her off her feet. Noah rescues her, and just as suddenly as it began, it is over. They are shaken and flee the apartment, only to return the next morning, cautious and wary. The apartment, however, is quiet; the room untouched. Noah dismisses the vision as a stress-related hallucination, but Meg is convinced that something real has occurred, that a message was transferred about their child. Megs conviction is further reinforced upon a second vision she alone witnesses that evening. Unbeknownst to them, their arguments do portend a fundamental shift in the world around them. Soon they will have to decide how much they are willing to sacrifice for their newfound parenthood, in a journey that takes them to the ends of the earth.
