Spain, 1939. On the day the Civil War ends, five comrade soldiers from the Nationalist side have a photograph taken of themselves together and promise to meet ten years later at the same place in Madrid.

A story about a group of Austria-Hungarian soldiers in the 1st World War. They hold an artillery post in the mountains on the southern front to Italy. The group is cut off from their own troops and under heavy artillery fire from the Italian. When the post receives a fatal direct hit from a shell, killing the comrades, private Jacob Lindner and the seriously injured captain Jan Kopetzky are the only survivors of the post. Jakob has to suffer the madness of this hellish war in all its human atrocities. Without care, help from the command, food and water, to survive becomes an existential challenge. The young soldier tries desperately with humanity and dignity to save his and the injured captains life.

Denmark is under German occupation, and the young couple Alice and Poul must live separately. Poul is part of the resistance movement's invisible army and stays in England, while Alice lives with her mother and is drawn to Poul's friend Jørgen. As Poul shows up with plans for sabotage under his arm and the Gestapo on his heels, the seriousness of both war and love increases.

Summer 1944, Racine, a nineteen year old first-aid worker, is called upon to help a wounded fighter in a remote camp of the French resistance. But when he gets there he discovers a wild and disorderly bunch of young men. Between love, trials, and survival, Racine is propelled into learning life the fast way.

An army pilot is on a visit at the home of another army pilot in the neighboured country. He falls in love with his sister. After the outbreak of a war between the two countries, her brother is killed by her friend in a battle, he is killed by some friends of her brother. She engages her with her brother's friend who was there, but then she finds out about that battle.
