A young vivacious Parisienne of African descent, dreams of becoming a fashionable hairdresser after graduation, but her aspirations clash with the traditional views of her family who forces her to marry a man she does not love. Fortunately, a friend comes to her aid.

The story takes place between December 1994 and February 1995 in a small village near Valencia, Spain, where the lives of four people - a child, a thief and two doctors - intersect. At the same time, the great love of one woman's life suddenly crumbles and a young girl pays a high price for learning how to love.

An old lady goes down the memory lane. She narrates the story of her life mostly through the shoes of the people she remembers and the events of her country.

After her first love leave her brokenhearted, Bete Kaebauk, a beautiful and bright young woman from Belu - Atambua, met Alfredo, the rebellious young man in her village. Unfortunately, her father against their relationship and turn down his marriage proposal due to their social class differences. Determined to pursue her own fate, she elopes with Alfredo. As she begins to build her own family, she starting to realize the dangerous signs from Alfredo and find herself fighting for her life.

Teenagers Ania and Tomek's relationship is put to test when not only do both of their families disapprove of it, but Ania is also introduced to all-night parties that soon turn disastrous.
