Continent 4, 2047. The new world system has progressed. Bolton discovers his father left more than a key to the city. In search of the unknown, he crosses paths with Daikin, a young fugitive seeking the truth beyond the walls of her reality. The pair soon discover their lives have become center stage for one of humanity's most epic shifts.

War buddies Burr Winton and Dave Stewart retreat to Burr's cabin in the Canadian Northwest after Dave helps Burr pay a gambling debt. During the winter months, Jacques Fachard, a French trapper, and his daughter Manette, who have eluded the Mounted Police, seek refuge in their cabin. Fachard dies of a bullet wound, after having persuaded the men to care for his daughter. Both fall in love with Manette; Burr, deeply in love for the first time and eager to marry her, is furiously jealous and threatens Dave. Food shortage makes it necessary for Burr to seek aid. Manette, after having been defended by Burr, starts after him in the storm; but Dave stops her and brings his friends back and leaves them to their happiness.

A virtuous housewife sleeps with her bankrupt husband's corporate enemy in a bid to relieve some lingering debts.

During a discussion about love and marriage on a train, Poznyshev (Oleg Yankovsky) announces that he murdered his wife. He then begins to tell another passenger his story and the circumstances that led him to kill her. In doing so, he talks about the decadence of his life before marriage and reveals his most personal thoughts and opinions.
