Summary Ala Verde Ala Pobre is the story of Manuel and Jessica, a young couple surviving against the odds in the Riles, a hustling community that grows along the railroad tracks leading to and from the inner core of Manila. Manuel, a former communist rebel now works as janitor for a recruitment agency GLOW that trains and deploys OFWs, more specifically to Japan to work as entertainers or Japayukis. His wife was a Japayuki but now finds better financial opportunity dealing in drugs for an unseen drug source she calls Kirat. The manager of GLOW is Monica who made the firm into a thriving business using her allure over the firms boss called Boss Dik whose wife Mrs. Ledesma, calls the shots while living in luxury off the profits made by the firm.
