"Dug up secrets don't just lay back down." Jewel, Texas seemed like most every other small town. From the outside, a traveler just passing through might only spot the sweet neat bungalows, the proudest old Victorians, the fervent home cookin' of the downtown square's family cafés, and the kept lawns that boasted clean, starched children playing chase under the mighty oaks on any given day. Jewel seemed good at dismissing just about anything-or anyone-that didn't fit, but in the span of three generations of quirky residents who had been planted all too deeply in this small southern town, the unraveling of having thought that they knew each other and their lives all too well proved that once a community's deepest secrets are dug up at the very germ of the root of its sweetest core, they don't just lay on back down with ease. One sultry summer would rock Jewel, Texas from the base of its very roots, scarring its long trusted foundations and its seeming Utopian landscape, forever.

Hasebe Yasuyuki is a delinquent, whose life is falling apart. After falling from a building, he damages his spinal cord and becomes confined to a wheelchair. He falls into despair, but after meeting the young boy, Ishii Daisuke, the store staff, Kato Kumi, a young man also suffering from a spinal cord injury, and a counselor, Minami Hideaki, he slowly begins to open up. After meeting them, he finally begins to take his rehabilitation seriously. But, he finds out that Daisuke only has a short time to live... Furthermore, Kumi suddenly disappears. She also was carrying a sad past with her... After some time, Yasuyuki is discharged from the hospital and begins to leave with his mother, Haruko, but Haruko faints from overworking herself. Yasuyuki becomes tired of being someone whos existence alone is a bother to people, and decides to commit suicide. Where will Yasuyuki take his life, how will he face his future.

A talented musician, about to trade his dreams for a safe career in his girlfriend's family business, finds his voice, but loses the girl, when a mysterious record label owner introduced him to a group of Brooklyn beatboxers.

Slacker Douglas Ng decides to become a gigolo to make money in order to impress grade school sweetheart Joanne, now a currency speculator.

Lawrence (Chandrasekhar) and Joseph (Charle) are two orphans brought up by Father Kirupakaran ('Bharathi' Mani). They are best of friends and both become teachers in a school and live in the same house. One fateful day, they meet with an accident and Lawrence becomes a quadriplegic, with no movement below hip, due to multiple injuries in his spinal cord. Life comes to a standstill for Lawrence and he is restricted to his bed. Joseph starts taking care of Lawrence and Joseph's help is needed to even perform his daily essential chores. Joseph continues teaching and Lawrence brings out a literary magazine, which does not sell much but gives him satisfaction of writing and doing something useful for others. Lawrence feels lonely and longs to see the outside world and live like a normal person. He spends most of his time watching television and his only consolation is the daily visit by Janani (Shwetha), a young girl, who comes for tuition with him. A noisy neighbourhood gives him the opportunity to know the problems of that family and urges him to help in their demanding situation. Joseph thinks of sending Lawrence abroad for treatment, but doctors inform that Lawrence cannot be cured. One day, the neighbourhood family vacates the house and Lawrence's window to the world is shut down. Lawrence advertises for a good proposal for Joseph in a matrimonial column - though the latter turns down the opportunity to look after Lawrence. Lawrence gets upset and tries to commit suicide so Joseph can get married. He gets admitted to a hospital and recovers, and Joseph agrees to marriage ad long as he can continue to take care of his friend. Edward (Bala Singh, the bride Lucy (Rindhya)'s father, likes Joseph but does not like the deal to care for Lawrence. However, Lucy comes and meets Lawrence and gives her consent for the marriage and cites that she will also help look after Lawrence.

A young man is happy to hear the news that the local candidate is offering money to elect. This money will help him get married but he sacrifices the money for an ailing beggar.
