A Fractured Life

A young doctor of psychiatry attempts to find out why a young Italian woman has become schizophrenic. A scandal ensues as he begins to investigate her sexual past.

Jack, the Brawler of Sugarland, is a drunk and grieving priest who soon finds solace when a little naive girl stumble upon his chaotic life.

12-year-old Lily lives with her father, who has been suspended from the police force, and her stepmother. Her parents sell Lily's aging dog to Mr. Teban for dog meat. Lily convinces Mr. Teban to return her dog, then begins a friendship with the dog-meat seller, much to the disgust of her family and friends. Mr. Teban becomes her surrogate father, and supports Lily against her abusive father and ineffectual stepmother.

The Most Precious Thing in Life is a 1934 American film directed by Lambert Hillyer and starring Richard Cromwell, Jean Arthur, Donald Cook, Anita Louise, and Mary Forbes. The film tells a story about secret and selfless maternal devotion with elements of Madame X (1929) and Stella Dallas (1937). It is the third film of Jean Arthur with Columbia.
