In 1895 Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia, amid preparations for a major trade fair, the murder of a wealthy nobleman occurs. Detective Aleksey Lykov investigates, uncovering a sinister plot that endangers his life as he pursues the truth.

In 1990s, Liu Jun returns from Germany to modernize his father's machinery factory. He struggles acquiring capital and technology but gets help from a friend Song. Despite obstacles, Liu adapts and leads factory's transformation.
