Chanda is a vivacious tribal girl who finds love in Madhav, a young Thakur who is romantic, young and modern in his outlook. But Chanda's dreams are shattered when her alcoholic father sells her off to be married to a much married man. Chanda initially fights this arrangement but when she is made to believe that Madhav has run away, Chanda has no option but to resign to her fate and get married to Thakur Nirbhay Singh. Chanda's nightmare begins when she discovers that her husband's first wife is very much around and she has been sold & bought for the sole purpose of bearing an heir. Chanda refuses to accept the circumstances and fights her husband and his entire family. But her every attempt is thwarted by her tyrant of a husband. Harbouring a deep sense of betrayal from a failed romance and enduring the horrors of being married to an emotionally abusive man, Chanda finds solace in an unexpected source - Asha! Who is Thakur's first wife and her sautan. The two women start by being enemies forced by circumstances to share a roof and a husband, but eventually realize that they are victims of the same male chauvinism that is personified by their husband. The women end up sharing their deepest fears and insecurities and gradually bond to the point where they protect the other and draw strength from each other to face their common destiny. Things take a dramatic turn when Madhav returns Chanda realizes that he is her brother in law as he is Thakur's cousin brother and Chanda also discovers that he had never betrayed her but had been sent away. Chanda is now out to reclaim her lost love and is encouraged in this process by none other than Asha. Will the strength of their bond help the two women break away from the shackles of an unjust patriarchal society? Will Asha find inner strength to chart her own destiny? Will Chanda be able to take on her entire family and society for true love? ...
