High school students enter a fictional woman's name (Bernardine Mudd) in a contest. The contestant wins and hilarity ensues.
Five classmates spend their last school year boat racing and dating girls. They do not take life seriously. But one of them does not manage to date any girl until he meets Jean. They begin to date but it's final exams time so they quit dating for two weeks. To avoid Jean may find another boy during that period, they decide she dates with on of the guys' older brother. This is the story of five classmates in their final school year. They are happy-go-lucky ones spending their time dating with girls, racing boats and having the time of their lives. They have a club and a fictional ideal girl (Bernardine) to dream of. Also there is a bookish classmate who they use to make fun of. One day one of them who has no lucky dating girls finds his own Bernardine and falls in love with her. But final exams are approaching and since he is reluctant to quit dating her due to his final study sprint one of his classmates suggests him his older brother may date her. This way he will not worry about loosing her for another boy. He agrees and since he needs some money to buy a proper car for going steady with the girl, he sells his race boat to the bookish classmate and they accept him as a member of their club in exchange of $700 to buy a new car. Also his widow mother is thinking about marrying again so the boy gets a new father who makes him go straight and study. Since he dislikes the idea, he tells mother he will pass the exams as long as she does not get married again. When exams finally end and he manages to pass them with the help of their friends he returns to the girl he loves only to find out she has fallen in love with the older brother and so he fights with his friends and enlists the army. The group gets break. Some time pass and he returns home. Hi has changed and matured. When he finds his friends again he realizes how silly they were and renew their friendship.
