Description:
(German Luftwaffe Night Fighter Ace) Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer was a highly skilled German Luftwaffe night-fighter pilot during World War II. He is known as the highest-scoring night fighter ace in history, with 121 victories primarily against British four-engine bombers. Schnaufer was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds, Germany's highest military decoration at the time. He held leadership roles within Nachtjagdgeschwader units and eventually became a wing commander. Following the war, he returned to civilian life but tragically passed away in a road accident in 1950.
