The 25 recruits face the most demanding part of their programme to date as they undertake the first day of their breathing apparatus training. Firefighters rush to the scene of a two-car accident and with one of the cars on its side with the driver trapped inside they must work fast to stabilise the vehicle and safely extract the injured party. Fire crews arrive from across the capital to battle a blaze inside a locked car garage stocked with rubber tyres. Will they be able to get the fire under control before it engulfs the building and spreads to nearby homes?

It's a race against time when a major house fire breaks out on the outskirts of Dublin. With the flames threatening to engulf neighbouring houses, the fire crews hit the ground running and need to make every second count. At the training centre, the heat is on for the recruits when their instruction steps up to a whole new level of intensity; their first fully suited encounters with live flames and blistering 600-degree heat. And pressure is something that firefighter and Dublin inter-county hurler Michael Carton has had to learn to take in his stride. But with a major all-Ireland championship match coming up, how will he juggle his life-saving work and a demanding training regime?

It's been a long hard road, but after 6 months the recruits are finally coming to the end of what has been a grueling mental and physical challenge for all of them. With the passing out ceremony fast approaching, they're excited and eager to start fire-fighting for real. The firefighters are called into action when a large fire breaks out at an industrial site in west Dublin. And it's another busy shift on the front line of emergency response for the specially trained Advanced Paramedics.
