Junior schoolboy Bendix actually runs the household for him and doting, depressed-lethargic widower father Fabian, a Berlin subway driver who sometimes even misses a stop having dozed off. Bendix shows angelic patience, amazing self-reliance and perfect filial piety. At the school gate Bendix meets Jule, a rebellious elder teen in ambulant psychiatric care who drives her decent parents to despair. Over curiosity he bonds with her, supplying a fake firearm without asking questions, and after she guesses Fabian's conviction, arranges for her therapist to give him an informal diagnosis. It leads to Bendix realizing his doted father needs residential treatment. Fearing impending foster care above all, he uses the fake gun to 'rob a bank' seeking incarceration instead, enforcing truth time on everyone.—KGF Vissers
