Spain didn't just dub the original Sesame Street (1969) and then broadcast it, but they mixed it with new material made in the country. "Barrio Sesamo" combines an original Spanish episode with the USA show footage dubbed to Spanish. This program has passed through three periods. In the first period (1979-1980), Caponata, the Spanish name for Big Bird, lives in a street where all the neighbors are friends and live happily with Perezgil, Caponata's best friend, a smart snail with eyeglasses. The second period (1981 -1987) was the most successful in Spain starring Espinete, a big pink hedgehog that has a lot of friends in the street where he lives, and his best friend Don Pimpón (never was revealed in which kind of animal is based the character; a theory points to an owl), a nomad who travels around the world and later he come back to the neighborhood to tell his adventures. Eight years later it was revived for a third and last period (1995-2000) with Blucky as the new main character and the single episode format of the two previous periods was changed by short sketches combined with Sesame Street footage.—Chockys
