Synopsis

In the quiet suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa, Alex's life seems ordinary on the surface, but beneath, he's struggling with emotional turmoil. His relationship with his stepfather is strained, and the tension at home is palpable. Alex has always felt out of place, both at school and within his own family, but he suppresses his feelings, never fully able to express what's going on inside. The more he tries to maintain normalcy, the more he feels like he's sinking.

As the pressure builds, Alex starts to manifest an imaginary figure in his mind-Mr. Always Right. This figure becomes a constant presence, embodying Alex's internalized pressure to appear perfect and in control, even though his reality is far from it. The world outside perceives him as a regular teenager, but inside, Alex's mind is a battlefield where he's constantly fighting against self-doubt, fear, and emotional repression.

At school, Alex faces an escalating amount of stress. His grades start slipping, and his teachers grow concerned. Meanwhile, Mark, a bully, relentlessly harasses him, aggravating his mental state. Alex tries to retreat into his own world, but the pressures he faces make it impossible. Emma, a kind-hearted girl in his class, notices the changes in Alex and begins to reach out. However, Alex is reluctant to let anyone in, including Emma, who wants to help but struggles to understand what's happening.

At home, the situation with his stepfather worsens. Verbal altercations between them become more frequent, leaving Alex feeling trapped in a household where he's never truly accepted. His mother, while caring, doesn't see the full extent of Alex's suffering, and this disconnect makes him feel even more isolated. Mr. Always Right, though a figment of his imagination, starts to take on a more prominent role in Alex's mind, advising him on how to act, how to feel, and how to handle situations, though not always in the healthiest ways.
